The Environmental Justice Clinic addresses environmental law and policy and their impact on marginalized communities; as well as urban issues that affect millions. The Clinic recently won an appeal in which it represented an environmental activist being sued for libel by a recycling corporation. In its ruling, the court said it appeared the corporation specifically targeted the appellant. The corporation threatened several libel suits, including one against a newspaper, but only sued the "weakest link" – an independent activist. All legal costs were imposed on the corporation. The Clinic also filed a precedent-setting tort claim against the municipality of Nahariya, in a case involving residential areas polluted by asbestos. The Clinic sought damages for mental anguish. While it was rejected, it is now a tool being used in other Environmental Justice Clinic cases.
